Rick and Morty is a popular American adult animated science fiction sitcom. The series follows the misadventures of cynical sociopathic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who divide their time between mundane domestic life and interdimensional adventures.
After having been missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez suddenly arrives at daughter Beth's doorstep to move in with her and her family. Although Beth welcomes Rick into her home, her husband, Jerry, isn't as happy about the family reunion. Jerry is concerned about Rick, a sociopathic scientist, using the garage as his personal laboratory. In the lab, Rick works on a number of sci-fi gadgets, some of which could be considered dangerous. But that's not all Rick does that concerns Jerry. Rick and Morty has been described as a never-ending fart joke wrapped around a studied look into nihilism.
Rick is a genius misanthropic alcoholic scientist inspired by Emmett "Doc" Brown from Back to the Future. Known for his reckless, nihilistic behaviour and his rude, pessimistic personality, the character has been well received. Morty is an anxious teen based on Marty McFly from Back to the Future.[1] Known for his awkward, anxious, second-guessing, and doubtful personality, the character has also been well-received. The show addresses the insignificance of human existence as compared to the size of the universe, with no recognisable divine presence. It's cosmic comic horror at it's most incisive.
