The pigments in grey hair dye work by temporarily staining the hair shaft to match the colour of the dye. The dye molecules are small enough to penetrate the hair shaft and bind to the melanin pigment cells. This process is called oxidation and it is what gives grey hair its colour. The dye molecules will eventually be washed out of the hair shaft, but the colour will remain until the hair grows out or is dyed again.
The lifespan of grey hair dye depends on a number of factors, including the type of dye used, how often it is used, how well it is cared for, and the individual's natural hair color and texture. Generally, semi-permanent grey hair dyes will last around 6-8 weeks, although this is not guaranteed. While permanent dyes will last indefinitely if properly cared for.
To achieve grey hair, you will need to use a hair dye that is one or two shades lighter than your current hair color. If your hair is dark brown, you will need to use a light brown or blonde hair dye. If your hair is light brown, you will need to use an ash blonde hair dye. If your hair is blonde, you will need to use a white hair dye.
