The Evolution of Groot

“I am Groot.”

Yes you are, my tiny floral colossus.

 

Hailing from “Planet X”, Groot is a tree-like extra-terrestrial who originally came to Earth to capture humans to capture and study them (Marvel Age of Monsters). Though many possible origins exist for this cute alien, the Groot that conquered our hearts came to us in 2014 with the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot is just a straight-up awesome little guy! We first saw him and went, “uuhh what is that tree-thingy?” He was definitely unique and odd and it didn’t take us long to latch on to this Chewbacca-esque character. He was kind and sweet and naturally disturbingly violent when the occasion called for it. But he is by far the nicest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Then came the heartbreak when he sadly died at the end of that film, tragically sacrificing himself for his friends….. but along came Baby Groot!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017 re-introduced the cuteness. And now Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has kept the Groot-fire alive with a teenage iteration.

The media’s affiliation with Groot is understandable, as the fictional creature has appeared in comic books, film, television, books, video games, and even as part of a ride at a theme park!
