How to Apply Goth Makeup - A Beginner’s Tutorial!

Hello Beserkers! Happy Tuesday! We hope you're having an amazing start to your week! At Beserk, we LOVE self expression, and one of the best ways to express yourself is through makeup! Applying Goth makeup can be a fun and creative way to express your style and personality. Here's a beginner's tutorial to help you achieve a Gothic makeup look: 🖤

Preparation:

  1. Cleanse and Moisturise: Start with a clean, moisturised face. This provides a smooth canvas for your makeup and helps it last longer!

  2. Primer: Apply a makeup primer to create a smooth base and help your makeup adhere better and last longer!

Face:

  1. Foundation: Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone. Apply it evenly to your face and blend it well, especially around the jawline and neck!

  2. Concealer: Use a concealer to cover any blemishes, dark circles, or imperfections. Blend it in with a makeup sponge or brush!
Pro Tip - Use a lighter shade of concealer to make your face appear brighter and a same shade concealer to hide blemishes!

  3. Setting Powder: Set your foundation and concealer with a translucent setting powder to prevent shine and ensure long-lasting makeup!

Eyes:

  1. Eyebrows: Gothic makeup often features bold brows. Use an eyebrow pencil or powder to darken and shape your eyebrows. You can make them thicker and more defined than your natural brows!

  2. Eye shadow: Choose dark, dramatic eye shadow shades like black, deep purple, or dark red. Apply a base eye shadow all over your eyelid and a darker shade in the crease for depth. Blend well for a seamless look!
Pro Tip - Don't be afraid to be a little messy as Goth makeup isn't always neat and perfect! 🖤

  3. Eyeliner: Apply black eyeliner along your upper lash line, creating a thick line or winged effect if desired. You can also line your lower lash line for a more intense look!

  4. Mascara: Coat your lashes with black mascara to make them stand out. Consider using false eyelashes for added drama!

Lips:

  1. Lip Liner: Outline your lips with a black or dark lip liner. This can help prevent lipstick from bleeding onto your skin!

  2. Lipstick: Choose a deep, bold lip color like black, dark purple, or deep red. Apply it evenly within the lip liner!

  3. Optional: Lip Gloss: For added shine, you can apply a clear or black lip gloss over your lipstick!

Contouring and Highlighting:

Goth makeup often includes strong contouring and highlighting to create a dramatic look. Use a matte bronzer/contour shade to contour your cheekbones, jawline, temples and nose. Then, apply a highlighter to the high points of your face, like your cheekbones, brow bone, and the bridge of your nose!
Pro Tip - Do this step BEFORE you powder your face with translucent powder to lock it in! 🖤

Finishing Touches:

  1. Setting Spray: Finish your goth makeup look with a setting spray to keep everything in place and ensure it lasts throughout the day or night!

  2. Hair and Outfit: Pair your makeup with a Gothic-inspired hairstyle and outfit to complete your look!

  3. Accessories: Consider adding Gothic accessories like chokers, rings, and dark nail polish to enhance your overall style! The Gothic style is always enhanced with tonnes of accessories! 🖤

Remember, Gothic makeup is all about self-expression, so feel free to experiment and adjust the intensity of the look to suit your preferences! Practice makes perfect, so don't be discouraged if it takes a few tries to get it just right. Have fun and embrace your creativity! 🖤

Lots of love and stay spooky!! 🖤
