Within the mystical Labyrinth, a pair of talking door knockers is hardly the strangest thing one may find, though countless years of having a ring stuck in your mouth or ears is enough to make any animate object more than just a little upset, and once they start arguing it’s hard to get them to stop. Best to let sleeping knockers lie, pick a door, and continue on your way.

Labyrinth is a 1986 musical fantasy film directed by Jim Henson and produced by George Lucas. It revolves around 15-year-old Sarah's (Jennifer Connelly) quest to reach the centre of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, whom Sarah wished away to Jareth the Goblin King (David Bowie). Most of the film's significant characters, apart from Jareth and Sarah, are played by puppets!  While the film performed poorly at the box office upon its release, it has more than made up for it since it debuted on video - launching it to almost-instant cult status.

The plot begins with teenager Sarah being forced by her father and her stepmother to babysit her baby brother Toby while they go out for the evening. Toby does not stop crying and Sarah wishes that her brother be taken by the Goblin King (a character in a book she is reading called, self reflexively, Labyrinth). Out of the blue, Toby stops crying and when Sarah looks for him in the cradle, she learns that her wish was granted and the Goblin King Jareth has taken him to his castle in the Goblin City in the middle of a monumentally dangerous maze called the Labyrinth. Sarah repents and asks Jareth to give Toby back, but the Goblin King tells her that she has to rescue her brother before midnight (actually it's thirteen hours, shown on a custom clock that goes up to 13), otherwise, Toby will be turned into a goblin. Soon Sarah teams up with the coward goblin Hoggle, the beast Ludo and the knight Sir Didymus and his dog Ambrosius in her journey. This delightful movie is for the whole family and is a fantastic repeat-viewing.
