What is Victorian fashion?

Victorian fashion and dresses consisted of the various fashion trends in British culture that emerged and developed in the United Kingdom and the British Empire throughout the Victorian era, which was roughly from the 1830s through the 1890s. Nowadays people who enjoy the Victorian look create or purchase dresses and clothing similar or even inspired by the Victorian era clothing trends that were around at the time. 

All the fashion trends and gothic victoria dresses used in the Victoria era (between 1837 and 1890) fall into this category. It represents a time when women had fewer outfits and little power. The ladies used to wear heavily embellished clothes made of fine fabrics. Those were the days when a woman had limited opportunities and she was supposed to live with her parents/guardian and her husband after marriage. Of course, there were only a few job opportunities, often limited to teaching young girls or participating in farm activities (if the girl belonged to a rural family).

With all fashion it can be combined with other subcultures creating a unique and diverse fashion culture like Gothic Victorian, that focuses on a darker look and dark coloured clothes compared to the stereotypical neutral and rich coloured Victorian look.
