HOW TO PATCH TEST:

Before you reach for your bottle of Crazy Color, you should carry out a patch test – this is to test your skin's sensitivity and ensure you will not have any irritation using our products.

Safety first
Our Semi-Permanent Dyes are peroxide-free, ammonia-free and PETA approved, so the chance of a reaction is very rare, but still possible.
Different things can affect your skin sensitivity so we recommend doing one each time you are going to dye your hair even if you are an experienced DIY-dyer. We recommend you perform a patch test 24 hours before dyeing your hair with our Semi-Permanent shades. This is to test your skins sensitivity and ensure you will not have any irritation from using the products.

Directions
Step 1. Pop on a disposable glove and maybe an old t-shirt too, then dab a small amount of the dye solution behind your ear or on your inner elbow using a cotton bud or similar and allow it to dry.
Step 2. If you are dyeing your hair, you need to do an allergy 48 hours beforehand.
Step 3. Leave the product on your skin for 45 minutes and then rinse off.
Step 4. If you notice any reactions during the 45 minutes or during the 48 hour window, do not use the product. A reaction can be down to lots of things but if the irritation persists, please speak to your local pharmacist or GP.
Step 5. If you are using the Bleaching Kit, you may notice a tingling sensation which is normal when using a bleaching product. If you feel any major irritation or excessive heat from the product, rinse off immediately and don’t use it for now.
Step 6. If you are happy no reaction occurred during your patch test – you are ready to hit the bottle!

HOW TO STRAND TEST:

A strand test will give you a true indication of how the colour will take to your hair. The condition of your hair and other factors can affect this so you might get different results each time, even if using the same Crazy Color shade. A strand test gives you an idea of the end result before going all in on the colouring process. If you’re happy with how your strand test turned out, it’s time to start colouring!

Step 1. Crazy Color works best on freshly shampooed, towel-dried hair or dry hair (dry hair will result in a more intense pigment transfer) so wash your hair in preparation.
Step 2. Pick a piece of hair from the back of your head, within the midsection of your hair where the hair won't be missed. You can cut a piece or if you are happy to strand test without cutting, go for it. A 1cm width section of hair would be ideal.
Step 3. Bleaching and colouring can be messy so make sure you get your protective gloves on!
Step 4. Apply plenty of colour to the strand and rub between your hands until you are happy the hair is fully saturated in colour.
Step 5. Leave it on for around 15-30 minutes after application before rinsing off. If you are after a more intense result, we suggest leaving your colour on for 45-60 minutes.
Step 6. Rinse with cold or cool water, without shampooing, to avoid stripping fresh colour out straight away.
Step 7. If you’re happy with how your strand test turned out, it’s time to start colouring!

PRE-LIGHTEN/BLEACH HAIR:

If you want to get the most true to bottle shade, reach for the bleach. Our Crazy Color shades work best on bleached hair because it makes the hair more porous and absorbs the colour better than hair that hasn’t been lightened. It creates a clean, uniform base for your new Crazy Color vivid! TIP: get rid of any yellow undertones after bleaching by shampooing with our Ultraviolet Shampoo! Our purple formula is free of ammonia and sulphates, it’ll deposit just enough pigment to refresh and add cool tones to lightened, coloured and grey hair. WASH YOUR HAIR!

Whether bleaching to go lighter or not, to get the best results it's best to start with clean hair so shampoo your hair before colouring. Crazy Color works best on both damp or towel-dried hair, whatever you prefer.

WHAT TO WEAR!

Dyeing your hair can be messy, especially if it’s your first time! Make sure you and your surroundings are protected! Best to DIY-dye in the bathroom where surfaces are easy to wipe off any stray dye. We suggest wearing old, dark clothing to prevent staining. We always recommend using disposable gloves so your hands won't be stained with colour. Use a dark towel for your hair after dyeing to prevent any colour transfer, especially when you are using deeper shades.

PREP YOUR COLOUR!

Whether you’re using one colour or are creating your own unique shade by mixing a few together, use a mixing bowl and brush for the best results and easy application.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO COLOURING:

Step 1. After Shampooing and towel drying your hair, you will need to section your hair with clips to expose more of your hair and allow you to cover each inch of your hair thoroughly with colour, from root to tip!
Step 2. Start at the root of your hair and work in sections, making sure every section has been completely covered in colour. Saturation is key: you must completely cover each section in plenty of Crazy Color. This is even more important when you’re working with pastel shades as every strand needs to be completely covered.
Step 3. Apply plenty of colour and rub between your hands until you get a creamy, thick consistency. You want your hair to be fully saturated to get the best colour results and to make sure your colour result is even, not patchy.
Step 4. Relax & let your colour develop. Leave it on for around 15-30 minutes after application before rinsing off. If you are after a more intense result, we suggest leaving your colour on for 45-60 minutes.
Step 5. Rinse your colour. After your colour has been in your hair for long enough, it’s time to rinse! Always rinse with cool water – cold if you can bear it! Using cool water shuts down the hair cuticle and prevents your colour from running down the drain. Be sure to use your shower at a high pressure when rinsing your colour. Rinse until the water runs clear.

AFTER COLOURING!

After rinsing your hair, apply our Anti-Bleed Spray which helps to seal your colour and prevent colour bleed after dyeing – it can extend the life of your colour for up to ten extra washes! The ultra-low PH formula works in just 60 seconds, shutting down the cuticle, retaining the colour and actively extending the life of all coloured hair types. Make your colour last
So you’ve recently committed to colour or maybe you’re a lifelong DIY-dyer, either way you want that colour to last as long as possible, right? Let us help you lock in that colour: Follow our guide below for optimal results.

1. Wash hair with cold water
This is an essential part of the process, to keep your new hair colour fresh and bright, wash your hair with cold water. We know it’s painful! But if you can bear it, cold water keeps the hair cuticles closed and therefore stops the colour running out and fading too soon. Warm water is the enemy!
2. Go longer between washes
Each time you wash your hair, your semi-permanent will fade. We suggest you reduce the number of times you wash your hair each week to keep your hair looking vibrant. If your colour fades in 8 washes or 10 washes, it's up to you how long that is!
3. Choose the right shampoo
It's simple: coloured hair needs extra care to help prolong your vivid colour. When you do wash your hair, make sure you are using the right products. Since hydrated hair retains pigment for longer, Extend Color Shampoo has a trio of essential oils to promote increased hydration and elasticity. Frequent use will seal the colour into the hair shaft giving optimal levels of vibrancy for longer! Another option is to try our Vibrant Colour Shampoo’s to maintain vibrant colour. 4. Use sulphate-free conditioner
Make sure you use a salt and sulphate-free conditioner to keep your hair healthy and hydrated. 5. Make colour mask
In between DIY-dyeing sessions you want to keep your colour fresh, make your own conditioning colour mask for your hair by adding a generous skoosh of your chosen Semi-Permanent Hair Colour to a handful of our Rainbow Care Conditioner. Leave your mask on for around 3-5 minutes to nourish and refresh your hair!

7. Avoid high heat styling
We know this is so disappointing to hear, but remember, the more heat you apply during the styling process, the quicker your colour will fade. Be aware of how hot your tools are each time you style your hair. we recommend avoiding all high heat styling if possible, or use a styling tool with heat control and set to low.
8. Go easy on the sunshine
Too much direct sunlight will strip the semi-permanent hair dye from your hair and will result in fading. Do your best to protect your new colour by limiting direct exposure to the sun. If you’re on holiday, keep your hair protected as much as possible to keep your hair colour looking vivid and bright. FYI: Similar to direct sunlight, the chlorine of a swimming pool doesn’t mix well with semi-permanent hair dye and will strip the colour from your hair. Keep your hair out of the pool.
