Synonymous with goths everywhere, The Addams Family cult classic is a fictional family created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. It began as a cartoon strip of a goth family, was later adapted into a TV series in the 1960s, and received a full feature-length movie in 1991 and a sequel, Addams Family Values in 1993.
The household includes Gomez, husband to Morticia, who is a craft schemer, sometimes misguided, sentimental and often puckish, optimistic and full of enthusiasm for his dreadful plots. Gomez is a real "Latin lover" type, an eccentric billionaire (through inheritance) and successful businessman, with a pencil moustache and ardently devoted to his wife. Morticia is the gothic matriarch, dark, elegant, incisive and subtle, contemptuous, with fierce family loyalty, witty and deadly (and beautiful in her own way). Morticia is described as a witch; she is slim, with extremely pale skin and long flowing straight black hair.
The Addams Family children are Wednesday, whose most notable features are her pale skin and long, dark braided pigtails. She seldom shows emotion and is generally bitter. Wednesday usually wears a black dress with white-collar, black stockings and black shoes. Pugsley is a chubby, devious young genius. Other Addams Family members include Uncle Fester, a completely hairless, hunched, and barrel-shaped man with dark, sunken eyes and often a deranged smile and always wearing a heavy, full-length coat. Lurch, the tall, gloomy, shambling butler with a deep and resonant voice, tries to help the family in the house however due to his size he ends up being clumsy and knocking things over. Grandmama, an aged witch who concocts potions and spells, dabbling in fortune-telling and knife throwing. "Thing" is also a "member" of the Addams Family. The thing is a disembodied hand that is able to run on its fingertips, handing cigars to Gomez or changing the TV channel. Last but not least, Cousin Itt is a diminutive, hirsute creature composed entirely of floor-length hair, often accompanied by a bowler hat and sunglasses, and he speaks in high-pitched gibberish that is understood only by other family members.
