Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. In 1951 the tale was adapted into an animated film of the same name by Walt Disney. This iteration is arguably the most well known of the Alice film adaptations, and is still still considered a classic to this day! In 2010, Alice In Wonderland was re-imagined by the legendary Tim Burton as a dark fantasy adventure film starring Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

The infamously grinning Cheshire Cat originated in the story, with the renowned quote, "'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.' 'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice. 'You must be', said the Cat, 'or you wouldn't have come here.'"

The plot follows Alice, a 7-year-old girl with blonde hair, who notices a white rabbit, clothed and talking and with a pocket watch, run past her. She follows it down the rabbit hole and suddenly falls headlong into a curious hall with many locked doors of all different sizes. She finds a small key to a door too small for her to fit through, but through it she glimpses an attractive garden. She then discovers a bottle on a table labelled "DRINK ME", the contents of which cause her to shrink too small to reach the key that she left on the table. She then eats a cake with "EAT ME" written on it, which then makes her grow to a tremendous size! Many misadventures follow, including a trial by the vicious Red Queen in which the famous words "Off with her head!" are used. In the end, Alice is woken by her sister and finds out that familiar deus ex machina: it was all just a dream.
